My Story
I did not have a Christian upbringing. My father was not interested in spiritual matters and my mother was a Muslim at the time. Growing up, I had a works-oriented concept of God (doing more good than bad will get you into heaven) rather than a relationship based on grace. I knew about, but did not know God personally. While I was at high school, both my older siblings got saved while at university and they started to talk to me about Jesus Christ. My sister prayed with me to receive Christ in my life in 1989. However, I did not notice any immediate change in my life at the time and I eventually forgot all about the prayer. However,I did notice that I had a heightened sense of good and bad andsuddenly had a slight desire to go to church. Following my graduation from high school the following year, I spent part of my holidays with my brother and his friends. While there, I noticed how they never seemed to stop talking about or singing about Jesus. They exuded a joy and peace which I'd never seen before and I wanted to be like them. So when asked, I agreed to come to service with them. When an altar call was made at the end of the service I went up to make a confession of faith. Since then, life has come to have more meaning and purpose than it had before. My spiritual growth has been more a process rather than instantaneous change. There's still much I have to learn, but I have come to know what my destiny, God's call on my life, is in a greater way than I could have imagined. More importantly, I can now truly say that I love God more than anything else and want to get to know Him even more. That's the best place to be.
